ROIS-DS-JOINT: The Collaboration Program at ROIS Joint Support-Center for Data Science Research

Joint Support-Center for Data Science Research (DS hereafter) was established in 2016 in ROIS, Research Organization of Information and Systems, Japan. DS consists of seven centers, and each center has researchers and data resources in various areas of data science.
The major aim of DS is to conduct collaboration-based research projects on the subjects of data science (data-driven/oriented sciences) with a variety of university researchers. As part of this project, ROIS-DS-JOINT has been calling for joint research proposals every year since FY2017 to provide a wide range of joint research opportunities for domestic and international researchers.

Type of the Programs

There are two types of Collaboration Program.

(1) The Joint Research Program (RP)

The Joint Research Program(RP) is intended for data science research projects conducted by a small number of researchers. Each project will be expected to be conducted with the facilities and resources available at the ROIS-DS. ROIS-DS will provide up to 1,000,000 yen for the expenses necessary to conduct the research. The maximum time allowed to apply of application for the same project is up to three years.

(2) The Joint Research Meeting Program(RM)

The Joint Research Meeting Program (RM) will support small and independent meetings to discuss joint research, exchange research, and hold workshops on data science. Depending on the purpose of the meeting, it can be held closed to the public. ROIS-DS will provide up to 500,000 yen to each plan as expenses for travel and rental/room fees, for example.
